Core Values and Beliefs

The Wheeler Road Church of Christ is an independent, Bible-believing Church — a family of Christians striving to be faithful in every way to Jesus Christ. We are involved in many ministries throughout the week, and we come together regularly to be encouraged through Bible study, prayers, teaching, and praise to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our core values are:

EVANGELISM
We communicate God's Word through evangelism; sharing the good news of Jesus Christ as witnesses of God's grace with as many as possible in our community and throughout the world. Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; II Peter 3:9

WORSHIP
We celebrate God's presence in worship; expressing our love, devotion, and thanksgiving to God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit in inspiring and motivating assemblies. John 4:24; Hebrews 13:15; Revelation 5:11-14

FELLOWSHIP
We incorporate God's family into our fellowship; providing a place of belonging, unity, family, encouragement, and loving relationships. John 13:34-35; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 15:5,7; Ephesians 4:16; Hebrews 10:23-25

DISCIPLESHIP
We educate Christ’s followers through discipleship; growing them to full Christlike maturity through training, spiritual discipline and commitment. Luke 6:40; Ephesians 4:14-15; II Timothy 2:2

MINISTRY
We demonstrate God's love through ministry; discovering and developing our spiritual gifts and serving unselfishly - in Jesus' name meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of those in our church, community, and the world. Matthew 25:34-40; Romans 12:7-8; Galatians 6:10; Ephesians 4:11-12; I Peter 4:10-11

STEWARDSHIP
We honor God’s blessings through stewardship; managing the church’s physical and financial resources to effectively and responsibly support our core values. Luke 12:42-43, I Corinthians 16:1-2, II Corinthians 9:10-11

Our core beliefs are:

God Is Sovereign
We are neither captains of our ships nor masters of our fates. "The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak" (Isaiah 40:28-29).

Jesus Is Lord

In your heart-felt worship, your transparent prayers, your purposeful integrity, and in your willing submission to His guiding hand, you authenticate your voiced confession:
"Jesus is Lord" (Romans10:9)

The Spirit Is Active

The Holy Spirit lives within us (Romans 8:9-11). Our hearts are set upon what He desires (Romans 8:5-6).We crave His filling ( Ephesians 5:18). Since our spiritual lives are dependent upon Him, we diligently try to match our steps with His (Galatians 6:25).

Inspired Scriptures

The Scriptures are so much a part of God, and God so much a part of them, that the Bible is described as His breath (II Timothy 3:16). All of us who share these words with others know of their indescribable power, and even knowing what we know, are recurrently blown away by their force. The Scriptures have a single-minded goal: To bring people to faith in Jesus (John 6:37-40; 20:31; 10:42; 17:3; 18:23; II Timothy 3:15). We do not draw our life from the Bible, but from the one of whom the Bible speaks (John 6:37-40).

The Church

There is one true church universal, comprised of all those who have acknowledged and obeyed Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. All these believers are members of His Body, the Church. The scripture commands believers to assemble to devote themselves to worship, prayers, instruction from the Word, fellowship, and partaking of the Lord’s Supper. As an outgrowth of one’s spiritual development, a servant heart within the believer leads one to employ their talents and gifts to serve the Body and reach out to the world.

Faith And Practice

Scripture is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Church recognizes that it cannot bind the conscience of individual members in areas where scripture is silent. Rather, each believer is to be led in those areas by the Lord, to whom he or she alone is ultimately responsible.

People Need Jesus

We really do. For salvation (John 4:42; Ephesians 5:23; Titus 3:6). For meaning (Matthew 16:24-26). For eternity (I Thessalonians 4:13-18). And we have the incredible privilege of telling the world about Him. (II Corinthians 5:17-2 1). Thank you Father, for your Son, Jesus Christ!
